Studio practice

Documentary rigor in Morocco

Based in Marrakech, KAI conducts independent field investigations and commissioned architectural surveys. The practice balances long-form cultural documentation with measured studies of historic domestic spaces.

Working method

Restraint and daylight

Fieldwork relies strictly on available illumination, single focal lengths, and patient observation. Artificial lighting rigs and staged tourist postures flatten the nuance of Moroccan life; true documentation demands waiting until dust, shadow, and geometry align naturally.

Architectural documentation requires identical patience. Measuring the gradient of morning sunlight through an interior courtyard reveals structural proportion that rapid commercial shoots erase. We record raw lime, cedar joinery, and quiet human movement without decorative excess.
